DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1: Pak-Ou Cave & Whiskey Village & Baci Ceremony with Traditional Dance
  • You will be met at the lobby of your chosen hotel and transfer by private vehicle to a boat pier in Luang Prabang where your boat departs.

  • Take a private boat first stopping at Ban Xang Hai also known as the 'whiskey village' to see the process of making lao-lao, the country's beloved rice whiskey second only to BeerLao in popularity. 

  • Continue on by boat to explore the sactuaries of Pak-Ou Cave and witness the intriguing sight of over 4,000 Buddha images.

  • Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant (not included) 

  • Cruise back to Luang Prabang on the Mekong River and observe the picturesque limestone formations and local way of life along the river.  Alternatively a transfer by private vehicle can be arranged if preferred.

  • Upon returning to Luang Prabang take part in a Traditional Baci Ceremony. The Baci Ceremony is a hindu tradition which came to Laos in the 14th century. These ceremonies are common to Laos. Their purpose is to call back your own souls to your body because they sometimes escape.  There are 32 souls in the body. This is very important to do it before or during major life events such as weddings, births, travels, welcoming of friends, the return of someone to the family.

  • This ceremony is followed by a traditional Lao dance which has been in Laos since the 14th Century.  Originating in Cambodia and similar to the Cambodian Apsara dance you will enjoy the Champa Lao dance (National Lao flowers dance), Lao minority dance and monkey dance.

  • Transfer back to your hotel.

Baci Ceremony

Day 2: Alms Giving & Cultural Heritage Tour

  • Luang Prabang is the perfect place to see one of the most sacred Lao traditions, the Buddhist Alms Giving Ceremony.  Rise early to witness the procession of monks.  You will have the opportunity to take part in this tradition by offering sticky rice to the monks as they collect their one meal of the day.  

  • After returning to your hotel for breakfast your guide and driver from here we will begin your tour by private air conditioned vehicle driving to the viewpoint of the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan River.

  • Walking along the peninsular you will have the opportunity to take photographs of this beautiful landscape.

  • From here we walk through Wat Xieng Thong temple which is one of the most beautiful in Laos.

  • Upon leaving Wat Xieng Thong we will take a walk through the streets of Luang Prabang observing the historical architecture of French colonial buildings and local life before paying a visit to the National Museum, the Former Royal palace which was built 1904-1909 by the French Architect and was gift from the French to our last king of Laos.

  • Next is a visit to Vat Visoun temple commonly known as That Mak Mo (the water melon stupa) built in 1520 AD it is now a Buddhist temple Museum followed by a stop at Vat Aham and Vat Mai.

  • Upon reaching the main street we will climb up to the top of Mt. Phousi for a 360 degree view of the city.

  • The tour ends upon our return to the main street where you have the choice to either stay in the town or be transferred back to your hotel. or airport for your onward journey.
