DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 1: Luang Prabang - City tour, Sunset Cruise and Baci Ceremony

  • You will be met at the lobby of your chosen hotel.  From here we will begin your tour by private air conditioned vehicle driving to the viewpoint of the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan River.

  • Walking along the peninsular you will have the opportunity to take photographs of this beautiful landscape.

  • From here we walk through Wat Xieng Thong temple which is one of the most beautiful in Laos.

  • Upon leaving Wat Xieng Thong we will take a walk through the streets of Luang Prabang observing the historical architecture of French colonial buildings and local life.

  • Upon reaching the main street we will climb up to the top of Mt. Phousi for a 360 degree view of the city.

  • After lunch (not included) pay a visit to the National Museum, the Former Royal palace which was built 1904-1909 by the French Architect and was gift from the French to our last king of Laos.

  • Transfer to Ban Muang Khai and board a local river boat.

  • Enjoy the sunset on board while cruising along the river.

  • Upon returning to Luang Prabang take part in a Traditional Baci Ceremony.  The Baci Ceremony is a hindu tradition which came to Laos in the 14th century. These ceremonies are common to Laos. Their purpose is to call back your own souls to your body because they sometimes escape.  There are 32 souls in the body. This is very important to do it before or during major life events such as weddings, births, travels, welcoming of friends, the return of someone to the family.

  • This ceremony is followed by a traditional Lao dance which has been in Laos since the 14th Century.  Originating in Cambodia and similar to the Cambodian Apsara dance you will enjoy the Champa Lao dance (National Lao flowers dance), Lao minority dance and monkey dance.

 

Transfer back to your hotel.

Day 2: Luang Prabang – Ban Chan Pottery Village, Hoy Khua Waterfall Cycle Tour

You will be met at the lobby of your chosen hotel.  From your hotel cycle to the boat pier where you will board the boat with your bicycle.

 

Take a leisurely private boat cruise along the Mekong River to the village of Ban Chan on the opposite bank where the local inhabitants of this village specialise in manufacturing pottery and bricks using the raw material from the local area.  You will take a bike ride from the boat to Ban Chan.

Departing Ban Chan continue by private boat making a stop at a typical Lao Village.  Visit the local temple and then cycle 30 minutes to the picturesque Hoy Khua Waterfall which is approximately 30 meters (98ft) tall.

After lunch at a local restaurant (not included) cycle back to the river where your private boat awaits to transfer you back upstream to Luang Prabang.

Transfer back to your chosen hotel.

Day 3: Elephant Experience with MandaLao Elephant camp

You will be met at the lobby of your chosen hotel.  From here we will begin your tour by private air conditioned vehicle approximately 30 minutes to the MandaLao Elephant Camp located on the banks of the Nam Kan River. Here you will enjoy the Therapeutic Trek tour (half day tour) which includes the following:

  • Arrive at Mandalao – get an in-depth introduction into elephant behavior and communication.

  • Meet the elephants – cross the river for first introduction to the elephants

  • Bathing – Elephants and mahouts will interact and continue their on-going bonding on the river while you watch them and enjoy the majestic elephants during bathtime.

  • Begin trek – Pass beautiful Lao gardens before exploring the jungle covered Huay Nok stream. The trek is 2.5km and takes approximately 1.5 hours and is flat and shaded most of the way.

  • Say Goodbye – After some final treats for the elephants begin trek back to Mandalao

  • Lunch – Enjoy traditional Lao cuisine made from own organic produce.

 

After lunch transfer back to your hotel in Luang Prabang
